Crying Shame 2

I'm about to make a statement that will prove horrifically unpopular in most hardcore gaming circles. I'm prepared to receive a flood of hate mail on this one. But it's a thought I simply can't shake, even in an attempt to return to the thought and unthink it recently. I have not found a single Crytek game that I actually enjoyed.

I joined into the original Far Cry a bit late. After hearing tons of hype on it, and generally ignoring it, I caved and decided to give it a shot a few years back. It was, admittedly, in part to see what its HDR graphics were capable of, as it was one of very few HDR games at the time. The graphics were intriguing, the massive open-ended island was unique, the world was beautiful, the gameplay was...well, average...at best. And the mutants were simply a detraction from the otherwise wonderful believability of the world.

Then came Crysis. It was a top seller, an award winning game. It was also infamously painful to attempt to run on even the most overpriced blingy gaming rigs around. Once again the gameplay, to me, felt simply average. Yes it was pretty and, though a bit more linear than Far Cry, was reasonably open-ended. The alien machines were pretty impressive, though fighting them got tiring, and the weak AI left it crippled. Crysis: Warhead served as a bit of a redemption for the title, it provided a bit more focused gameplay, a bit quicker pace, but it still felt a bit lifeless in my eyes.

Enter Far Cry 2. Designed by the famous Ubisoft Montreal studio, it has been hyped even more than the original, and promises to be something totally new. Most importantly, Crytek didn't develop it! Let's read on to see what this game is made of, a game destined to be distributed with every new video cared for years to come.
